The Cats React To The Litter Robot

Cat litter is a topic we cat guardians both love and hate. We love discussing the best litter options but when it comes down to it, we all hate the process of smelling it, cleaning it, and dealing with it. There are many do’s and don’ts, common mistakes, product solutions, and the unfortunate situation of cats peeing outside the litter box.

So, when the people at Litter Robot sent me one of their self-cleaning litter boxes a few months ago, I was ecstatic. They sponsored a video for participation in a giveaway they were having over Christmas, and since I was initially very happy with the product, I agreed. If you haven’t seen the Litter Robot in action, do watch because it’s really quite something (plus it’s hilarious to watch Sho & Ko’s reactions)!

But Is The Litter Robot Worth It?

I wanted to use the Litter Robot for a few months before publishing an article on it. Would the cats really like it long-term? Would there be any problems with it? At $500 (USD), it’s definitely a luxury item and one more thing to worry about breaking down. The company said I could return it if I wasn’t satisfied (with them paying for it), and that their return rate is less than 3%. Even so, the hassle of packing it up and returning seemed like a hassle I didn’t want to deal with.

So here it is, 3 months later and my verdict is officially in. The Litter Robot is <drumroll> LIFE-CHANGING! Like, seriously. I barely even think about the litter anymore, except when I hear Kodi meowing his face off down the hall after he’s done his, ahem, duty, followed by those glorious mechanical sounds of the Litter Robot dealing with it. It’s like I’m George Jetson and I’ve got my own Rosie the Robot! I will occasionally check the drawer to make sure their bowel movements all look normal, but otherwise I just wait until the light is flashing telling me when it’s full and time to change the bag (about every 3 weeks).

Life before the Litter Robot was different. I used to think about cat litter every day, of course, as most cat guardians do, whether I had to clean it or smell it or worry if others would smell it and wonder if Shorty’s actually going to cover up her stuff! And now, the subject of cat litter occupies a very small area at the back of my mind which relieves more stress than I ever realized it could!

Who Needs An Automatic Litter Box?

But do you really need an automatic litter box? That’s really up to you to decide. If it’s challenging for you to scoop the cat litter daily, whether you have a bad back or you’re elderly (like my spry 77-year-old friend, Carole, in the video), pregnant and worried about toxoplasmosis, or you’re just feeling lazy (like me!), the Litter Robot is for you. But if you don’t mind cleaning it every day, and are on a budget, then maybe it’s not.

Do you know someone who’d like a robot to scoop the litter for them? Share this with them!
